The importance of Performance in Music Lessons

Lately, I've been using a phrase over and over in my studio: "Performance is a teacher." Not sure if anyone else said this, but I like to say it's my quote, thank you very much ha!
Now as someone with a Bachelors & Masters in music performance and a Certificate in Audio Engineering- you'd definitely know I'm ALL IN when it comes to music school. I loved learning the intricacies of music theory and analysis, the vast history of music and it's

relation to all history; however, I don't feel this is enough if you want to get better as a musician.
I can show you all the warm-ups in the world, have you memorize and sing for me and fix those high notes and little creaks in your voice or posture at the piano- but the second you're in front of an audience, it all changes.
You might rush, play faster than you ever knew you could
Perhaps you'll forget everything you were supposed to do
There's a big chance you will come alive in front of a crowd and play better than ever in your life
You might find that people love the way your high notes sound after all these years performing in your apartment.
So I know what some of you're saying: I only do this as a hobby, for fun, to build confidence. Kind of like rallying in tennis. But all of those things- having fun, building confidence, meeting like-minded people might also come with performance. You might find your next great circle of friends. Even more so, building confidence busking on Venice Beach boardwalk might cause you to instill serious courage that makes your tech job presentations way better.
That being said, do you want to prepare for your next performance? Or come over to the studio and get some help figuring out venues and space to perform for others? Come have a music lesson with me online at Venice School of Music. I teach voice, piano and songwriting & can't wait to meet you!
