Spring Cleaning for your Music Routine

It's already March and the rain in LA is currently cleaning the ground to make room for new life! I for one look forward to new fruits and vegetables because I'm tired ot oranges and sweet potatoes ha!

Spring Cleaning for your music routine

So let's think about ways that you can spruce up your music routine and get new energy flowing for your creativity.

  1. Clean Up your practice space! Dust off the piano. Clean around the pedals or open up the music bench and dispose of all the random pieces of trash and notes that may have built up over the past few months or years! Also good to make sure your space is clean if you're a singer by letting fresh air and making sure the space is free of dust for better singing. Songwriters: go through that pile of papers sitting on your desk or organize your voice memos!

    2. Try new warms ups

Have you been singing the same scales for a few months now? Playing C major as quarter notes at the same BPM? Why don't you sign up for a voice lesson to get some new scale to overcome the areas where you've plateaued. Or Consider doing that quarter note scale as eighths at a faster speed!

  1. Treat yourself to a new note book.

I like to see all of my clients bring in NoteBooks. What are some uses for the Notebook?

    1. Songwriters- Daily journal so you can come up with new concepts

    2. Singers- how about writing down a list of singers you'd like to listen to

    3. Pianist- make a list of concerts around LA that you can attend

  2. Lastly,  take a break from social media for a few days. This will give your brain space to assess your current needs and goals as a musicians and then take your "spring-cleaning" music routine from there. The Equinox is on March 20 so perhaps you can fast from the internet then & explore nature in LA that beautifully balanced day.
